Library Thing

Library Thing is Thing 11. I first used Library Thing when it was just a wee little thing, barely an idea, sometime around 2003. I wanted to see if it could provide a way to catalog a collection of books for an organization planning to provide books to children in Zambia--I had written the collection development policy for this non-profit and had been asked to develop a cataloging scheme that could be exported, along with the books, to our libraries in country. While Library Thing didn't work for that purpose as I would have liked, it was fun to have found it and to watch it grow into a great big thing, not only for personal collections but for public library collections discovery. Our visionary webmaster tried to get my library system to try Library Thing several years ago, since it was affordable and fairly simple in addition to being useful. My current committee chair (for the ALSC Notables Committee) usses Library Thing for her books and finds it useful. I had planned to use a combination of ReaderWare and Bento to keep my inventory, but find that my simple notes serve as well. Anyway, my long ago account is still somewhere in Library Thing. I'm waiting for it to send my details.

The art of reading what you like

Found another piece of my blog.
Here's my first post for the 23 things. I think they are all over the place, including in the shared collections blogs for MCPL.

Blue sky, blue sea

It's that dry air from Canada. The one that makes me think of Van Morrison's St. Dominick's Preview.
